KATHUA/RAMBAN, May 25: United Cricket Club (UCC) Billawar defeated Junior-XI by 42 runs and lifted the title of Kathua Premier League, while Shah-I-Asrar Kaskoot trounced Warriors-Xl Banihal, organised by Indian Army, here today.
Batting first, United Cricket Club scored 162 by losing 6 wickets in stipulated 20 overs, while Junior XI failed to chase the set target and made 120 runs by losing 8 wickets in the 20 overs match.
Sahil Kumar was declared as man of the match who made 30 runs and claimed 2 wickets during the match.
A total of six teams participated in the week-long Cricket tournament, organised by the Army at Sports Stadium Kathua, wherein Col RDS Billawaria, Deputy Commander, 255 (I) Armoured Brigade and SSP, Ramesh Chander Kotwal were guests of the closing ceremony.
They distributed cash prizes and sports kits among the winner and runner-up team.
While addressing the audience, the SSP applauded the efforts of the Indian Army for the betterment of youth of the UT. He said that under the ‘Civic Action Programme’, the security forces including J&K Police are trying hard to engage the youth in the sports activities, so that they can exhibit their talent at various national and international level tournaments.
Meanwhile, pre-qualifier matches for the upcoming White Knight Cricket Premier League-2022 was concluded with the final match which was played between Shah-I-Asrar Kaskoot and Warriors-Xl Banihal at DPL Ground, Ramban wherein former emerged as champion.
Major General Ajay Kumar, General Officer Commanding, CIF (Delta) was the chief guest of the closing ceremony. A total of 16 teams from different parts of District Ramban participated in the competition.
