UDHAMPUR, Oct 29: The 14th Udhampur District Fencing Championship, organized by Udhampur District Fencing Association, began at District Sports Complex, here today with an impressive display of talent from 160 young athletes from across the region.
The opening ceremony was attended by chief guest, Vikas Dogra, who officially declared the championship open after an oath ceremony.
On Day 1 of the championship, in U10 category, Mivaan from India Kids won gold in Foil while Annie Khan from APS claimed gold in Sabre.
In U12 category, Arvind from Imperial Fencing Academy won gold in Epee and Arohi won gold in Sabre.
In U14 category, Shranya won gold in Epee and Ahladita claimed gold in Foil.
In U17 category, after fierce competition, Alankrita from APS clinching gold in Sabre and Arshi from Happy Mode Academy took gold in Epee.
The matches were officiated by a distinguished panel of referees, including Kamal Kumar, Tariq Hussain, Rahul Prashar and Rajan Prashar.
President of Udhampur District Fencing Association, Retired Colonel Balwant commended Udhampur’s rapid progress in fencing.
The championship will continue over the next two days.
