JAMMU, Apr 4:  Twelve riders from Jammu completed Brevet de Randonneur Mondiaux 600 Kms (BRM 600), organised by Udhampur Randonneur from Jammu to Attari Border and back to Jammu wherein 40 hours were allotted to complete the ride.
The ride started from Track and Trail Showroom Gangyal, Jammu via Kathua, Jalandhar, Attari Border, Amritsar, Gurdaspur and finally finished the ride again at Jammu. The BRM 600 was completed without any support or special requests for safety vehicles by the riders in the true spirit of randonneuring.
Udhampur Randonneur congratulated Rahul Sharma from Jammu who completed his 2nd SR of the season and for his 10th BRM since November 19. For the uninitiated, a rider who completes 200 km, 300 km, 400 km and 600 km endurance rides in an Audax calendar year (November-October) is called a Super Randonneur (SR). A Super Randonneur qualifies for the Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) which is held every 4 years in Paris, France and has a participation of over 8,000 riders from across the globe.
The 12 of the riders are Praveen Raina, Dheeraj Gupta, Sahil Sharma, Vijay Singh, Sumit Gandotra, Sawan Nagpal, Ronit Verma, Vivek Magotra, Sahil Sharma, Pankaj Jagotra, Satpal Gorka and Gautam Takoo, whereas volunteers were Rahil Gupta and Rahul Sharma for manning the control points and making the riders comfortable.
Balvinder Singh who presented the medals this year to the Attari Border-Jammu Randonneurs holds the well reputation in upgrading cycling culture in J&K.
Completing an Audax Club Parisien (ACP) Brevet de Randonneur Mondiaux (BRM) is indeed a moment of pride of having followed a 120 year tradition originating from Italy and France. This style of riding is non-competitive in nature and self-sufficiency is paramount.
The event was supported by Jammu Hills Sports Club.
