JAMMU, Nov 25: A four week long UGC —general orientation course for university and college teachers, being organized by Academic Staff College, University of Jammu in collaboration with Deptt of Punjabi, commenced here today.
Around 32 university and college teachers from both within and outside the State are undergoing the GOC. The inaugural lecture of the course was delivered by senior journalist Pradeep Dutta, who spoke about the power of words and communication skills that can be used by teachers in making an indelible mark on the impressionable minds.
“Good communication skills are two-way process of reaching mutual understanding, which will help teachers and academicians not only exchange (encode-decode) information, but also create and share meaning and special bond with students,” Mr Dutta said. He emphasized on need of good communication and said the same can be biggest advantage — when it’s executed properly. He also highlighted that how new media tools are offering this opportunity with increasing frequency.
“In a world where tools are increasingly taking attention away from where the real action is — people processing information, learning, and connecting — good communication is there to give people on both sides of the conversation a voice,” Mr Dutta stressed upon.
Earlier the guest speaker was formally welcomed by Asstt Director, ASC, Ranjeet Kalra on behalf of ASC Director Prof Archana Kesar and staff of ASC.
Dr Baljeet Kour from Deptt of Punjabi, Dr Harbhajan Singh and Dr Pritam Singh were also present in the inaugural function.
