Udhampur, Sept 7: Unemployed Youth Forum organized a rally in support of the demand for employment to locals in big projects.
The rally took off from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park Dabbar Chowk and reached at the office of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur after passing through Gole Market, Mukherjee Bazar, Ramnagar Chowk, Court Road, Slathia Chowk and Dhar Road.
The rally was headed by social activist Azaz Sumbria and unemployed youth were raising slogans in support of their demands.
While addressing the gathering, Azaz Sumbria said that despite State Government instruction to all private enterprises, those are working for Government developmental projects, to give employment opportunities to 80 percent local youth in allotted projects, the direction was not being complied by the companies. Projects in Udhampur like Jammu to Udhampur National Highway (Afcon) and Chenani Nashri Tunnel (Leighton) had engaged 80 percent outsiders by violating the norms framed by government, he alleged.
After the protest demonstration and rally, the Unemployed Youth Forum submitted a memorandum of demands to Assistant Commissioner Revenue.
In the memorandum, addressed to the District Administration, the Forum has demanded employment to locals in Udhampur to Chenani and Chenani to Sudmahahdev four laning projects, which are going to be started soon.
ACR Revenue assured the youths that he will bring their demands into the notice of higher authorities for appropriate action.
