BHADERWAH, Apr 5: The students of Bhadarwah Campus of University of Jammu took out awareness rally against drug abuse.
Around 150 students led by PRO Bhadrwah Campus Aarif Khateeb took out awareness rally against drug abuse aimed at to stimulate the village folks against the ill effects of drugs.
Raising slogans and carrying placards, the university students marched in the lanes and markets of Sungli and Sartingal villages while telling residents to stay away from drugs and alcohol.
Aarif Khateeb said that it is high time to take steps to curb the growing use of drugs in villages as peddlers are finding it safe to operate in rural areas as compared to towns and urban areas.
“Most people believe that drugs and alcohol consumption are prevalent in urban areas only, but it has been observed that the youth of far off villages are becoming addicts at an alarming pace. We need to ponder on this crisis very seriously. Drugs are a big issue here too and authorities must initiate action now before the situation worsens”, said Khateeb.
“Prescription drug misuse and heroin use has grown in villages and steps should be taken to eradicate the menace of drug abuse from the society”, said Nikita Chowdhary, a BEd student.
