JAMMU, Sept 15: Minister for Medical education, R.S.Chib today said that in an era of knowledge explosion and advancements taking place in almost every field, especially in medical sciences, there is greater need for updating the knowledge base to meet the challenges of the fast changing world.
Addressing a mega quiz competition organized by the PG Department of Peadiatrics in collaboration with IAP J&K, City Branch at SMGS Hospital of GMC here today, the Minister said: “Such educative quizzes add to the knowledge of the students in specific fields besides providing them an opportunity to introspect upon their shortcomings for making necessary corrections and improvements.
The Minister said such activities also enable the students of different State’s to interact and share their knowledge. He complimented the participants, medical faculty and other officers besides the organisors of the event and stressed on the need of holding activities on a larger scale. He also underlined the need for widespread awareness about basic neonatal and paediatric care in order to curb neonatal, infant and under 5 mortality rates through such educative events.
Students from medical colleges of different States of northern region viz; Fortis Faridabad, Maulana Medical College Haryana, M.C.Tanda, B.D.Sharma Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, IGMC Shimla, GMCs, Jammu and Srinagar and SKIMS participated in the competion.
The 25th undergraduate and 6th Postgraduate Paediatric Quiz is a part of efforts of Indian Academy of Paediatrics which, in collaboration with its state branches and Medical Colleges, organizes such educative programmes for promoting child care among the students both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Acting Principal GMC, Jammu, Dr. Shashi Gupta, HoD Paediatrics ASCOMS, Dr. D.B. Sharma, Ex. HoD Paediatrics, Dr.Ashok K Gupta, medical and nursing students attended the academic feast.The Minister lauded the efforts of IAP and Dr.Rekha Harish, Professor & Head Deptt. of Paediatrics in particular in carrying out such academic activities.
Four teams from GMC Jammu participated in the Undergraduate Quiz. Rupali Mahajan and Shivani Sharma were the winners who will represent GMC Jammu in UG Divisional Round to be held at ASCOMS while two teams comprising Preeti Sharma besides Pallavi Sharma, Prakariti Gupta and Nidhi Sharma stood the first runners up.In Postgraduate quiz, Dr. Aakash and Dr. Annie Arvind from GMC Jammu were declared as the winners while Dr Inderpreet Sethi and Anuja Bharti from Fortis Escorts Hospital & Research Center Faridabad and Dr.Mohit Gupta & Dr. Joginder from PGI Rohtak besides Dr. Zahid Hussain Mir and Imran Akram Khanday from GMC Srinagar and Dr.Nitin Bansal & Dr.Gautam Madaan from M M U Mulana Ambala were declared as the first runners up.Later, the Minister honoured the winning and runner up teams with mementoes and certificates.
The winners will go to zonal level and after winning this stage the winners will go to national level.
