UT level weightlifting C’ship concludes

JAMMU, Feb 21: UT level Weightlifting Championship, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Weightlifting Association under the aegis of J&K Sports Council, concluded at Indoor Sports Complex, Bhagwati Nagar, here today.
A total of 115 participants from different districts of the UT took part in men and women categories, wherein the participants showed a great interest in the event and performed with enthusiasm to give their best.
Deputy Mayor Baldev Singh Baloria was the chief guest, while Nirmal Singh former Deputy Chief Minister and Ashu Gupta Joint Director Planning were the guests on the occasion who distributed the prizes among the winners.
“There is no human being who has never played any game or a sport. However, it is a few that make a name beyond a certain level. While talent exists, what is required is the effort to harness the talent and to lead it to a level that the talent transforms into a masterpiece for the whole world to regard and emulate” said Baloria Deputy Mayor, Jammu.
“Sports is receiving the priority attention of the Government and the importance given for development of sports and its infrastructure in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir is remarkable”, said former Deputy CM, Nirmal Singh.
Earlier Ashu Gupta Joint Director Planning distributed the prizes among the meritorious women athletes who took part in different weight categories in the championship.
Harbhajan Singh, Yudhvir Singh, Inderpal Singh, Ravi Singh, Anees Choudhary, Akash Virthy, Ganesh Pathania, Ajaj Choudhary officials of the J&K Weightlifting Association including Sports Council officers and officials were present on the ceremony.
In 109 kg youth, Satwik Luthra-1st and Taranjeet Singh-2nd, in senior Gourav Sharma-1st, while in men plus 109 kg, Saksham Singh-1st in youth category, while in junior Abhinav Sharma-1st, Jation -2nd and Tahir-3rd, in senior Pushpinder Singh, Abhinav Sharma and Jatin Mehra stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
In 96kg youth, Yogeshwar Singh-1st, in junior Akash Sudan-1st, and in senior, Nitin Kumar-1st and Arun Bhagat-2nd, whereas in 89kg youth, Tajinder Singh and Harsh Singh remained 1st and 2nd, in junior Niranter Sambyal-1st, Aditya Sambyal-2nd and Nishant Jalotra-3rd and in senior, Abhishek Kumar, Mohd Jaffar and Aditya Rajput stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
