JAMMU, Jan 3: J&K gymnast Vaibhavi Sharma has impressed at the ongoing National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Surat, securing the title of second-best gymnast in the junior category. Her remarkable performance adds to her growing list of accolades as she continues to make a mark on the national gymnastics stage.
In addition to Vaibhavi’s individual success, the Junior J&K gymnastics team, consisting of Vaibhavi, Prachi Sharma, Shrenya, and Anika, claimed the silver medal in the team championship event, with Maharashtra winning gold. Vaibhavi’s success does not end there, as she has also qualified for the Individual Apparatus finals, raising hopes for more medals for J&K in the ongoing competition.
Er. Kiran Wattal, Vice President of the Gymnastics Federation of India, praised the coaches for their dedication and hard work, which has helped J&K gymnasts achieve national recognition. He credited the gymnasts’ success to recent training sessions, including a 21-day camp with international coach Dilbar Ibrahimova from Azerbaijan. The camp was part of a larger initiative facilitated by the Ministry of Sports of Azerbaijan through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with India, bringing international expertise to local athletes. Wattal also acknowledged the continuous support from the Government, which has been instrumental in helping local gymnasts excel at both national and international levels.
