Vajpayee had qualities of head & heart: Gupta

JAMMU, Dec 25: Atal Behari Vajpayee was having great qualities of both the head and heart and knew the art of wining friends even in the camp of adversaries.
Paying his tributes to Vajpayee on his birth day, the former Union Minister,  Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that first as Foreign Affairs Minister in seventies he put forth Indian case at UN so nicely that all voices about plebiscite in Kashmir  were snubbed and the world nations felt the futilities of Pakistan’s cries and issue was virtually buried.
Again in 1999, when Pakistani troops had infiltrated into Kargil in the Winter and entrenched at the high hills, Vajpayee as Prime Minister demonstrated a great determination and acted in a strong manner to the extent that not only the intruders were eliminated but also Pakistan’s military ruler General Musharaff in 2003 was forced to publically admit that no area under control of Pakistan would be allowed for cross border terror and subversive activities, said that it was different matter that in the latter years the things much change and so in Kashmir.
Prof. Gupta also recalled that Vajpayee was only Prime Minister who was equally popular in all the three regions viz. Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh. He became popular in the Valley of Kashmir when he advocated for end of hostilities between Pakistan and India by observing that friends can be changed but not the neighbour. He was already popular in Jammu and Ladakh for his continued efforts for removal of all the barriers between this State and rest of India.
