Valley to witness first ever Intl Cycling event soon Chib reviews arrangements for upcoming sports bonanza

SRINAGAR, Oct 19: Encouraged by successful conduct of mega sports events in the Valley during the past couple of years, the Government will provide another opportunity to the sports lover soon to witness first ever International Cycling Race event here. The event has been tentatively scheduled to be held in the summer capital during the first week of December, 2012.
The first ever Cycling Race event will be organized by the ID Sports, a premier sports organization in the country in collaboration with the leading business houses of the country. The main sponsors of the event will be Godrej Eon, Nodal Crew Management System, Air India and other business giants. More than 400 delegates and cyclists from 54 countries will participate in the event.
This information was given at a high-level meeting of officers held here today under the chairmanship of Minister for Youth Services and Sports,  R.S.Chib. The meeting was convened to discuss the arrangements and other aspects connected with the event.
Appreciating the initiative of the organizers, the Minister said that the State Government will extend all necessary logistic support for this historical event. He said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is personally taking initiatives to promote sports culture in the State with the participation of renowed sports bodies and prominent players. Several measures in this direction have been taken by the Government during the past three and half years and State has been able to conduct various mega sports events across the State, particularly in the Valley.
Mr Chib stressed the need for adopting a well-knit strategy to make this global event a mega success. The divisional administration will remain in constant touch with the organizers to remove bottlenecks, if any.
The CMD, ID Sports,  Dr. Akil Khan briefed the meeting about the pros and cons of the event. He said that the objective of holding this mega event is to promote cycling race in India, which is third most popular sports in the world.
Those present in the meeting included, Principal Secretary Technical Education, Youth Services and Sports,  Sudhanshu Pandey, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr. Asgar Samoon, Director Youth Services and Sports, S. Jaipal Singh, Director Urban Local Bodies, Kashmir,  S.A.Laharwal, Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar  Baseer Khan, Secretary J&K Sports Council,  Daleep Thussu, Special Secretary to Chief Minister, Sufi Mohammad Yousuf and other senior officers of various departments.
