Various camp organizations, migrant employees oppose Govt decision

JAMMU, Mar 29: Various migrant organizations of Jagti and TRT Muthi have expressed their surprise over Government decision to charge power tariff from the migrants who are leading a refugee life for 23 years in various camps.
In a statement issued here today All Kashmiri Migrants Relief Holders Jagti in an emergency meeting expressed surprise over the reports that Government has charged the power tariff on migrants putting up in camps.
The meeting said on one side Government is providing monthly relief to them for their sustenance and on the other it has started charging the power tariff which they are unable to pay out of the meager cash doles given to them by the Government. It urged the Government to review the decision and warned complete shut down in Jagti on April 2 in protest against the decision.
Migrant Welfare Committee TRT-I Muthi Camp Phase II while expressing its displeasure over the Government decision said that they will neither fill up the forms nor pay any power tariff as they are not in a position to pay the same on meager relief amount which is not even sufficient to make their both ends meet.
The Committee which met under the chairmanship of its president T N Koul said that migrants condition is becoming miserable from day to day as Government has failed in their resettlement even after 23 years now and it is not sincere towards the plight of the displaced Pandits.
The meeting sought the intervention of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in the matter.
The Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) which met under the chairmanship of Shadi Lal Pandita its president termed the Government decision to provide 100 units of power free to relief holders in camps nothing except to divide the community and create a wedge in it.
It said what Government has thought about the infirm and old people who are dependent on pension only. Even the class fourth employees and daily wagers are also not in a position to pay the tariff. It said there should be a uniform policy and the Government should bear the expenses of power tariff itself till Pandits are rehabilitated in their homeland in Kashmir.
It warned to hold protest on April 2 against the Government decision at Jagti.
Meanwhile, Displaced Employees Coordination Committee Jagti also opposed the Government decision and said that they will not pay power tariff till Government constitutes a Committee to discuss the issue with camp representatives.
