JAMMU, Apr 24: Varun’s five wickets haul helped Media Cricket Club Jammu to beat BMCC-2 XI by 15 runs in a keenly contested match played at Phallian Mandal, here today.
Captain of Media CC Vivek Suri won the toss and elected to bat first on a good batting surface. Both the openers of MCC Jammu Ankush and Varun gave an explosive start to the innings and shared 68 runs partnership in just 3.5 overs before Varun was out on 27 runs in just 10 balls.
Ankush kept the momentum going and dispatched the ball to all parts of the ground. He was eventually out on 40 runs in just 25 balls. Vivek Suri played a cameo of 25 runs in 17 balls and shared an important partnership of 44 runs with Pawan Sharma (20 runs) for the team to place 171 runs in stipulated 16 overs.
For BMCC-2 XI, Satish took 3 wickets, while Arun and Atul shared 1 wicket each.
In reply, openers of BMCC-2 XI started on a blistering note and were on target for a great run chase. But clever bowling changes by Vivek Suri reaped dividends as dangerously looking Arun Sharma was out on 28 runs in just 9 balls.
In form Satish was brilliantly caught by Rohit which proved to be the turning point of the match as wickets kept tumbling in order to match with increasing run rate. BMCC-2 XI scored 156 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Satish scored 56 runs in 22 balls and Aran made 22 runs.
For Media Cricket Club Jammu, Varun took 5 wickets, while Man Singh took 2 wickets and Vivek Suri & Rohit shared one wicket each.
Varun was declared as man of the match for his brilliant performance.
