JAMMU, Mar 7: Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu facilitated the Grappling contingent (M&W) of University of Jammu for emerging runners-up in All India Inter-University Grappling (M&W) Championship organized by Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, recently.
Prof Dhar eulogised the efforts of Directorate of Sports & Physical Education in general and medallists in particular and encouraged the Department to participate in all the sports events in future.
It is pertinent to mention here that the University of Jammu remained runners-up in men and second runners-up in women section of the Inter-University Grappling Championship.
Apart from University of Jammu, about 50 Universities from all over the Country also participated in the Championship.
The Jammu University team won 17 medals in different categories.
It is for the first time in the history of University of Jammu that 17 medals have been won by any team in any Inter-University Championship.
In men’s section, Munish Jamwal won gold, Vishesh Thakur bagged one silver and one bronze, Anurudh Singh claimed one bronze, Vishabjeet Singh clinched one silver and one bronze, Akhil Sharma bagged one bronze, ADaleep Singh claimed 2 silver, Shubham Kerni clinched one silver and one bronze and Ankit Manhas won 2 silver medals, while in the women’s section, Ritu Bala, Roshni Devi and Nandni Sharma claimed 2 silver each, while Sanjana Manhas bagged one silver and one bronze.
Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu also applauded the efforts of the whole team including the coaches Pushap Thakur, Sahil Dogra and Jai Bharat.
