JAMMU, May 7: Prof RD Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu today inaugurated the Inter-Departmental Tournaments, being organized by the Campus Sports Committee of the University of Jammu in the events of Volleyball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Carrom and Chess at the Gymnasium Hall and Volleyball Court of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, here.
The Vice-Chancellor was introduced with the participating players of the various Departments of the University.
While addressing the participants, Prof Sharma congratulated the organizers and advised the players to participate regularly in the sports activities for being physically fit, mentally sound and socially adjustable.
Prof Neeru Sharma, Chairperson, Campus Sports Committee, University of Jammu and Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports and Physical Education were also present there and briefed the Vice-Chancellor regarding the organization of the said Inter-Department Tournaments.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Akhilesh Sharma, Ravish Vaid, Vikas Karlopia, Jai Bharat and PD Singh.
The Tournaments are being organized under the supervision of Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Sports & Physical Education,
University of Jammu.
In Table Tennis (Men), Department of Physical Education beat Department of Geography by 2 -0 and SHTM drubbed Life Long Learning Department by 2-0, while in
Table Tennis (Women), Department of Economics got the better of Department of Physical Education by 2-0 and Law Department trounced Department of Geology by 2-1.
In Chess (Men), Sanskrit Department got the better of Mathematics Department by 2-0 and Geography Department prevailed over MCA Department by 2-1.
In Volleyball (Men), Chemistry Department beat The Law School by 2-1 sets with set score of 25-17, 20-15, 15-11; Education Department outplayed Law Department by 2-1 sets with set score of 25-20, 25-15, Physics Department outclassed Geography Department by 2-1 sets with set score of 25-22, 27-25; Economics Department beat Geology Department by 2-1 sets with set score of 25-21, 25-13 and Electronics Department defeated English Department by 2-1 sets with set score of 25-19, 25-12.
