REASI, Dec 28: Vice Chancellor Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Prof Ravindra Kumar Sinha alongwith Deputy Commissioner, Indu Kanwal Chib today visited Bakkal area of block Bhomag of the district to assess the loss of water resources due to digging of tunnels.
Prof Sinha advised the Deputy Commissioner to gauge the extent of ground water depletion in the region. He suggested involving the Central Ground Water Board to conduct a survey in the area to rejuvenate groundwater and other natural water sources of the area. The VC also suggested measures to divert water gushing from the tunnels back towards Bakkal. DC also highlighted the importance of increasing vegetative cover in the region to help percolation of rainwater.
Assistant Commissioner Development, Sunil Sharma, Tehsildar Bhomag, Akshay Rajan, Block Development Officer and PHE officials were also part of the visit.
