JAMMU, June 15:  ‘Zindagi Ke Maare Log’, a collection of Urdu Gazals in Devnagri script, written by Pt Vidya Rattan Aasi, an eminent Urdu poet of the soil, was released here today during a function organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.
Jammu University Vice-Chancellor, Prof R D Sharma, formally released the book in the presence of Prof Lalit Mangotra, Convener, Dogri, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi; Satish Gulati, publisher of Chetna Parkashan, Ludhiana; Pt Vidya Rattan Aasi, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, JKAACL and others.
Prof Lalit Magotra applauded the efforts of Khalid Hussain and his associates for rendering their support in bringing out Urdu poetry of Pt Vidya Rattan Aasi in Devnagri. He further said that the poetry of Aasi needs no comments and is self explanatory and easily enters the hearts of the readers and listeners.
Prof R D Sharma also appreciated the poetry of Pt. Aasi, which touches the sentiments of the masses and also satires on the socio-political issues as prevalent in the present setup.
Dr Arvinder Singh Amn delivered welcome address and brought into notice of the audience about the policy of the Academy where under life and   works of an icon writer of the respective languages in the State are documented for the future generation. He further said that the Academy would continue such efforts in near future also and will cover some more pioneer writers under the scheme.
Ravinder Koul, a well known critic and columnist presented a detailed paper on the life and work of Pt Vidya Rattan Aasi.  A documentary film on the life and work of the writer was also screened on the occasion. Pt Vidya Rattan Aasi also read out some of his Gazals on the occasion.
Vote of thanks was presented by Khalid Hussain, a renowned Urdu and Punjabi Short Story writer. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Raj Kumar Behrupia
A galaxy of artists and writers of different languages, intellectuals and prominent citizens of Jammu were present in the function.
A book exhibition of publications of Chetna Parkashan was also arranged on the occasion.
