Vigilance arrests 5 SMC officers

SRINAGAR, Mar 23: Vigilance Organization Kashmir today arrested five officers of Srinagar Municipal Corporation, against whom a case of allowing illegal construction was registered.
The arrested officers included Mohammad Ashraf Warsi (Enforcement Officer of SMC), Fayaz Ahmad Khan and Bilal Ahmad Baba (Ward Officers of SMC), Urfan Hussain Joo and Bashir Ahmad Bhat (Building Inspectors).
A case FIR No. 07/2017 U/S 5(1)d, 5(2) PC Act Svt, 2006, Section 4-A P. C (Amendment Act-2014) r/w Section 109 RPC was registered against them and other employees of SMC on the outcome of Joint Surprise Check conducted in association with Engineering wing of the Vigilance Organization, where under it was surfaced that these employees , in connivance with the owner of the Hotel Royal Arabia namely Abdul Majid Matoo of Sadribal Srinagar, allowed the illegal construction behind Khyber Hospital at Khayam Colony Srinagar by violating the approved building permission.
The first floor was approved for parking but the same was changed into restaurant and reception. Besides have allowed constructing a double storey, Servants Quarter with dimension of 702 sfts, was allowed to be raised without any permission for pecuniary gains.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
