Vijay Hazare Trophy: Gahlaut butchers J&K bowlers in Services’ big win

JAIPUR, Oct 6: Services top order batsman Rahul Singh Gahlaut scored swashbuckling unbeaten 124 runs off 101 balls, studded with 10 fours and 8 massive sixes, while skipper and batting mainstay Rajat Paliwal contributed composed 49 runs off 65 balls with 3 boundaries in their big 7-wicket victory over nervous Jammu and Kashmir in Vijay Hazare Elite Group-C match at at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.
Chasing a modest total of 190 runs set by Jammu and Kashmir, Services reached home easily in 34.2 overs, losing 3 wickets in the process, thus won the match by 7 wickets.
Gahlaut and Paliwal made an aggressive partnership of 132 runs after early dismissal of both their openers-Ravi Chauhan (6) and Nakul Verma (3). From J&K, Ramdayal and Umar Nazir took 1 wicket each. Ramdayal was economical, conceding just 15 runs in 5 .1 overs.
Earlier, put into bat, Jammu and Kashmir scored a modest total of 189 runs in 48.3 overs. Paras Sharma, who played his first game of the season, scored 49 runs off 79 balls, while wicketkeeper Fazil Rashid contributed 39 off 66 balls. Shubham Singh Pundir, Abdul Samad, Shubham Khajuria and Ahmed Omar Banday contributed 22, 20, 15 and 14 runs to the total respectively. Diwesh Singh Pathania was the pick of the bowlers for Services, who took 4 important wickets by conceding 39 runs in his 9.3 overs, while Varun Choudhary, Pal Raj Bahadur and Arjun Sharma claimed 2 wickets each.
Abhinav Mukund (84) and Baba Aparajith (87) shone as Tamil Nadu thrashed Tripura by 187 runs for its sixth straight win.
After posting an imposing 315 for 8 in 50 overs riding on impressive knocks by Mukund and Aparajith, Tamil Nadu shot out Tripura for 128 in 34.3 overs with left-arm pacer T Natarajan taking three wickets to pocket four points. Chasing 316 for victory, Tripura never seemed to be in the hunt as it kept losing wickets at regular intervals and slid for 105 for 4 to 128 all out in the 35th over.
In another match, Railways and Rajasthan shared points as the match ended in a tie. Batting first, Rajasthan scored 206 runs, which was equalled by the Railways team on the last ball of the match. From Rajasthan, Arjit Gupta was the top scorer with 90 runs, while from Railways, Dinesh Mor scored unbeaten 92 runs. Himanshu Sangwan took 4 wickets for Railways, while AR Lamba scalped 4 wickets for Rajasthan.
