Vikar reviews performance of PDD

JAMMU, June 5: Minister of State for Technical Education, Power, Information and Rural Development, Vikar Rasool today stressed on evolving  an effective mechanism to  curb  losses  during transmission  and distribution.
The Minister was reviewing the performance of Power Development Department at a high level meeting with the Principal Secretary PDD A.K.Mehta, Chief Engineers, SEs and other senior officers of the department.
He emphasized on the need to put in place requisite preventive measures aimed at minimizing the damages in power infrastructure. He asked the concerned officers to ensure regular  monitoring on field functionaries to plug in the loopholes, adding that the grievances of the people should be addressed in a time bound manner. He directed the concerned to  ensure that the damaged transformer are repaired within 24 hrs to avoid unscheduled power cuts.
The chair was apprised that the revenue realization of the department ending April stands at Rs. 50.66 crore which is 46.77% of the set targets for the current financial year. It was also informed that about Rs 845.75 lakh was recovered from the domestic consumers under the amnesty scheme of the department while about 1026 inspections were conducted and a fine of Rs 19.31 lakh was recovered from the defaulters.
Mr Vikar directed the officers to make sure that enforcement wings are strengthened adequately and frequent inspections are made to check power thefts. He also stressed on the officers to ensure metering of the unmetered areas.
The Minister also took a detailed review of the ongoing RGGVY projects under implementation by NHPC and JKPDC and asked the concerned officers to ensure better monitoring and coordination with the implementing agencies for time bound completion and handing over of these projects.
He also asked for strict compliance to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the department and officers to ensure that the functioning of the department is streamlined and the revenue receipts improve. He asked the concerned officers to take quarterly review of the performance of the department at the grass root level so that targets are optimally realized.
