Violence free elections

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Kashmiris rejected violence, voted for peace:Chug” DE Dec 28,2020.
There is no doubt that people of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory participated in recently held DDC elections with enthusiasm and in large numbers despite harsh weather conditions. Most appreciable aspect of these elections was that there was no violence as was expected in these elections. These elections were keenly watched at national and international level both by critics and admirers of India.
Now onus lies on the elected members and the Government to take development to door steps of people as was promised with them. They must take every other measure to redress the grievances of people who usually do not have access to corridors of power, and remain unheard and unattended. Now opportunity has arisen that these people are taken into confidence while making developmental schemes for them. If that goal is achieved, only then these elections would be termed successful otherwise it would be an exercise in futility, and next time no one would take these elections seriously.
