Sir,
On the eve of Prime Minister’s and other dignitaries visit of Jammu to inaugurate the 101st Indian science Congress in the University of Jammu on February 3, the administration took all the necessary and unnecessary steps to ensure the safety of VVIPs. All the roads leading to the Jammu city and in the interior of the Jammu city had been fully or partially blocked on February 2 and it continued till the afternoon of February 3. The general public was caught unaware in this security net for VVIPs and massive traffic jams were seen everywhere. Everywhere large number of people were waiting for hours and also people walked miles to reach their destinations. Worst sufferers were students, as this is the time of final practical examinations, and also patients and their attendants. I want to draw the attention of the administration towards discrimination meted to the poor people on the outskirts of Jammu city, where only means of transport for poor people are public passenger vehicles. The security personnel at every naka allowed all the personal vehicles and auto rikhshas but not the public passenger vehicles which is ridiculous and illogical. It is discrimination purely on the basis of the weight of wallet. These people were seen cursing the VVIPs and administration.
The security setup should either stop all the types of vehicles or allow passenger vehicles also to ply. Is it not insult to the poor people? It seems poor people are potential threat to VVIPs? Can these high profile people and such mega events provide even one time meal to a poor person who could not reach his destination and thereby lost one day’s work. Either general public should be informed in advance about the traffic restrictions or some alternate arrangements should be provided by the Government so that people will not suffer. This is not a new thing, as every time people suffer especially poor people on account of such VVIPs visit. It is therefore requested to the administration and security agencies to have a sympathetic look towards the poor people in the future, who are always at the receiving end in these high security dramas. Better would be to stop VVIP culture.
Yours etc…..
