Srinagar, June 15: As the schools have shifted to the online mode of education amid pandemic, there has been an insatiable urge of remaining glued to the smartphones throughout the day witnessed among the kids.
Several parents said that they have observed that from the day the online classes were started, their kids have become more addicted to smartphones and remain glued to them all day.
“Even though the duration of the class has been reduced now, but, we feel that their increased interaction with the smartphones has changed their routine,” Tanveer Ahmad a parent said.
Parents are also feeling that the increased interaction with mobile phones have changed the habits of their children while they are also witnessing a change in their mood.
“I see a lot of change in the attitude of my daughter; she is always cranky and lazy; we both have to make her do things while she remains glued to the phone even after the online classes are over-it is worrisome,” said another parent Waseem Ahmad.
Earlier, the duration of the online classes was longer and the same was reduced to only 30 minutes and the schools were told to adhere to the new norms. The changes came after a 6-year-old girl from Srinagar complained about the ‘burden’ of online classes.
However, the parents feel that the damage has been already done and that there appears to be no coming back. “There are various schools that are carrying it out on assignment-based and have shunted out the option online classes, and we think that is better, especially for the students of KG and nursery classes,” the parents said.
The health experts also said that the kids remaining glued to the smartphones is going to add to the addiction with every passing day, particularly among the kids of KG and nursery classes.
“If the addiction increases, these kids will have problems focusing once the offline classes are resumed; therefore, there has to be an alternative and the parents need to make sure that the children get to do other physical activities as well,” a child psychologist said.
