JAMMU, Apr 3: A two day Volleyball tournament, organized by Panchayat Committee- Arnia along the International Border with the support of J&K Sports Council, concluded at Pindi Charaka, near here today.
Eighteen teams from the various villages along the International Border participated in the tournament, wherein Ricky Volleyball Club emerged as winner in a keenly fought final by defeating KP Volleyball Club.
Ranjeet Kalra, Member J&K Sports Council gave away the trophies to the winners and also distributed medals among the players.
Neelam Singh Sarpanch Pindi Charaka Panchayat along with Naib Sarpanch Kuldeep Raj and prominent people of the area expressed gratitude to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha (President of the J&K Sports Council) for his ‘Har Din Khel Sab Ke Liye Khel’ initiative and Secretary Sports Council, Nuzzat Gul for helping the organizing committee for holding the tournament in Arnia sector of the international border.
Speaking on the occasion, Ranjeet Kalra assured the Panchayat office bearers and sports clubs for Council’s support in their future sporting events. He also informed that various initiatives are being taken by the Sports Council ‘My Youth My Pride’ program to engage the youth.
The tournament was organized in the loving memory of late Rakesh Singh (Sunny)- a popular Volleyball player of the area.
Ram Singh, father of late Rakesh Singh also expressed gratitude to the Sports Council and organizing committee for organizing the tournament in the memory of his son who was a national level player.
“Such types of tournaments not only promote talented sports persons but also help to keep the youth away from the menace of drugs, ” Ram Singh said.
Prominent persons including Kamal Kumar, Tarsem Lal Sangra, Prabhat Singh, Kuldeep Singh (JKP) Ghar Singh, Roop Lal, Sat Paul, Sachan Sharma, Sushil Singh Charak, Chairman NDA, Bunny Sharma, Karan Singh Bantu and Vicky Kumar were present during the event.
