Wani reviews traffic, road encroachment issues

JAMMU, Dec 31: Minister for R&B, Abdul Majid Wani has asked the authorities of R&B Department to remove all road encroachments and come up with comprehensive road plans in order to ease traffic pressure in the Jammu city.
The Minister was reviewing the traffic congestion and road encroachment issue at an officers meeting here today.
Legislators, Ashok Khajuria, Sukh Ram, Ch. Sham Lal, besides Commissioner Secretary, R&B, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, IG, Traffic, DC, Jammu, Commissioner, JMC, Chief Engineers of R&B, MED CEO, ERA and RTO Jammu were present in the meeting.
The Minister asked the line department to have a joint survey of the city and identify the spots for construction of parking facilities. He said a committee would be constituted to identify the roads encroached besides the banquet halls and commercial complexes constructed in violation of Jammu Master Plan and other parameters of Building Permission Act.
The Minister said that Jammu city remains busy with visitors visiting religious places situated in the city including Mata Vaishno Devi and underlined need for finding a way for creating parking facilities in and around the Jammu city. “Until and unless an alternative is find out it is not possible for us to overcome on this issue”, said the Minister adding construction of bye pass has become imperative to ease traffic pressure on internal roads of Jammu city. He said opening of 4th bridge has reduced traffic pressure in the city.
The Minister asked the Divisional Commissioner to educated people, particularly the shopkeepers, about the traffic jamming being caused by the vehicles they park in front of their business establishments.
Earlier, a thorough discussion was held on the issue of traffic congestion in Jammu city and it was unanimously suggested to create adequate parking facilities, remove Road encroachment, shifting of certain Government offices from Residency Road to ensure smooth moment of the traffic in the city.
