Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘ Kathua emerges as model for water conservation practices’ DE Sept 23.
It is worth appreciation that people have started realising the importance of water conservation, and taking steps in this direction.
With every passing day water conservation will gain momentum as water shortage is assuming alarming proportions, particularly in both urban and rural areas of the State. In urban areas water shortage takes an ugly turn during summer season. People protest against water shortage in cities on a daily basis resulting in confrontation with police or other groups. The large scale violence in many parts of Karnataka over Cauvery water sharing issue is a wake up call in this direction. If we don’t resort to water conservation measures right now, we have to witness such incidents in the near future also.
The people should wake up to this reality and give thrust to water conservation right now.
If Kathua has emerged as a role model for water conservation practices, let us follow it sincerely for our better future.
Yours etc…
Harjinder Singh
