JAMMU, Sept 20: Western Command chief Lt Gen Surinder Singh today reviewed preparedness of the troops in countering various threats in the region especially along the borders in Jammu sector, which have been activated by the Pakistani Rangers for the past few days.
Lt Gen Singh visited the Rising Start Corps, headquartered at Yol Cantonment in Himachal Pradesh, which looks after three border districts of Jammu region including Jammu, Samba and Kathua and reviewed the situation, which has developed recently following heavy mortar shelling and firing by the Pakistani Rangers in Arnia sector of Jammu district in which a BSF jawan and a woman were killed and half a dozen other civilians were injured.
General Officer Commanding (GOC), Rising Star Corps Lt Gen SK Saini gave detailed briefing to the GOC-in-C Western Command on the situation prevailing along Jammu and Pathankot regions including the International Border. He briefed the Western Army Commander on various security measures being adopted to meet with any kind of eventuality.
Sources said Lt Gen Surinder Singh reviewed preparedness of 9 Corps, which is also known as the Rising Star Corps, in countering both conventional and sub-conventional threats in the region and stressed on ensuring fool proof security measures.
He appreciated the coordinated efforts being made by all security agencies in the area to thwart any nefarious designs by the anti-national elements.
The Western Army Commander exhorted all ranks of the Rising Star Corps to maintain a high state of operational preparedness to meet with any eventuality.
