JAMMU, Apr 16: Weaves–The Cotton and Silk Spectrum, an initiative to uplift the weavers by providing them a platform for direct access to the end consumer to revive the dying art forms, commenced today at Ritz Manor Hotel, Channi Himmat, here.
The exhibition, organized by Revathi Creative Communications Private Limited, will be on from 10 am to 8 pm until April 20.
The range of handlooms available at the expo reflects the diversity of India’s culture. Each region has its own speciality. The choice of colours, fabrics, prints, weaves, embroideries highlights the uniqueness of a region. Available are the rich Kanjeevarams, Crepe silks, Dharmavarams, Uppadas, Pochampally silks, Narayanpet, Gadwals, Paithani ,Banaras brocades, Jamdani and Jamawar and the Patolas are the traditional silk specials of Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Add to that the tussar, Eri, Muga, and Kosa are the non mulberry or wild silks famous of Bihar, Assam, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.
The Coimbatore cottons, Chettinads of Tamilnadu, Gadwals, Pochampally, Venkatgiri, Mangalgiri of Andhra Pradesh, Pune and Nagpur cottons of Maharashtra, Chanderi, Maheshwari of Madhya Pradesh, Kota Doria of Rajasthan, Daccai’s of West Bangal, Sambalpuri cottons of Orissa and Manipuri cottons are some of the traditional handloom woven cotton varieties also on display.
The Tie and Dye of Rajasthan, Bandhej and Kutch embroidery of Gujarat, Block and dabu prints of Rajasthan, Batiks of Madhya Pradesh, Kalamkaris of Andhra Pradesh, the Kantha and block Prints of West Bengal, the Kasuti of Karnataka, the Kashida of Jammu and Kashmir are some of the finest varieties can also be found at the expo.
