BHADERWAH, Mar 20: With an aim to promote adventure tourism in a big way and also to train local youth in rescue activities during natural calamities, Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department (JKTD) and Bhaderwah Development Authority (BDA) in collaboration with Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIM) Ministry of Defence started week long training course at Bhaderwah.
The adventure course in which mountaineers, rock climbers, snow skiers and travel bloggers of national repute besides students of different colleges and Universities are participating is being organized at different locations simultaneously in and around Bhaderwah town under the supervision of Assistant Director Tourism, Shazia Rehman.
The first training session of Zip wire and river crossing was conducted at Gupt Ganga over Neeru river, while simultaneously rock climbing was being held at Nalthi resort.
60 trainees drawn from different educational institutions of J&K, 30 adventure lovers from other states including Karnatka, Mahrashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Utrakhand and Rajasthan participated in the training session on the first day of the course.
Jammu and Kashmir in general and Chenab Valley in particular being considered prone to different kind of natural calamities including avalanches, landslides, floods, snow storms and frequent earthquakes, the adventure course first of its kind in Chenab Valley will not only boost the adventure tourism but the trained youth can play a major role in immediate rescue operation during calamities.
Prominent among those who supervised the training included Mehfooz Elahi, KC Sharma and PK Singh from JIM, Publicity Officer BDA Sajid Nisar Khan, Xen BDA Tarseem Kumar and Assistant Tourism Officer Zahoor Din.
