Weeklong science exhibition for school children concludes at JU

Jammu, Feb 29: The Wadia Museum of Natural History, University of Jammu in association with National Council for Science & Technology and Innovation Council, DST New Delhi and J&K State Science Technology and Innovation Council organized seven days science exhibition for school children from February 23 to 29, 2016.
During this week students from Delhi Public School, KC Public School, B N Higher Secondary school, Tiny Tots Higher Secondary School, Presentation Convent, Jodhamal Hr. Secondary School, Heritage School, MHAC Nagbani, and Happy Model School Udhampur participated in the program. In addition students from the Geology Department participated in the programme on 28th.  Students were exposed to mineral, rock and fossil galleries and short lectures on basic geological concepts were imparted and discussion were held on problems of social relevance, followed by quiz competitions among various student groups on daily basis.
Dr. Bindra Thusu from University College London interacted with students on all days, alongwith Research scholars from the Department of Geology. Short Documentary on Dr. D N Wadia was also shown to the participants.
All these activities culminated today with Poster making competition on the theme Make in India: S&T Driven Technology in which five students each from 10 schools participated. Awards were given to best three best posters (first prize was won by the KC public school, second by Jodhamal school and third by MIER), by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Professor R. D. Sharma.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Bindra Thusu impressed upon the students and the teachers to be proactive in promoting the social cause through S&T driven technology and expose the budding students to the new emerging trends in S&T at the global level.
Vice-Chancellor while speaking on the occasion encouraged the students to develop scientific temper amongst themselves and take science as their career to serve the society in a meaningful way.
Earlier Professor G. M. Bhat, Director Wadia Museum welcomed the participats. Professor PK Srivastava, Dean Students welfare presented vote of thanks.
