West Bengal wins 27th All India Postal Cricket Tournament

SRINAGAR, Oct 25:   West Bengal today retained the All India Postal Cricket Tournament trophy by beating Uttar Pradesh by 75 runs in the summit clash  of the All India Postal Cricket Tournament played at Kashmir University Cricket Ground, here.
Asif Iqbal of J&K was awarded man of the series for his 165 runs and 5 wickets, while Assam secured 3rd place by defeating J&K by 9 wickets.
Professor Talat Ahmad, Vice Chancellor Kashmir University who was chief guest on the occasion gave prizes to the winner team and man of the series award in the presence of Chief  Postmaster General J&K, Chandra Prakash and Director Postal Services J&K, Jagdeep Gupta.
Speaking on the occasion the chief guest Prof. Talat Ahmad complimented the Department of Posts for hosting tournament in Srinagar and further stated that sports and games provides an opportunity to understand each other strengthen the relations between people of different parts. r.
On the occasion the chief guest Professor Talat Ahmad and Chandra Prakash Chief Postmaster General released special cover on the 27th All India Postal Cricket Tournament 2013 brought out by the J&K Circle especially to mark the occasion.
Chandra Prakash while speaking on the occasion expressed satisfaction on the smooth conduct of tournament.
Earlier, Director Postal Services J&K, Jagdeep Gupta presented a welcome address.
Showkat Ahmad Parrey Assistant Chief Accounts Officer J&K Circle was also present while Senior Superintendent of Post Offices Srinagar Division.
Prajapati presented vote of thanks, while P K Gupta and Pawan Kumar were the observers of the tournament from Postal Directorate, New Delhi, Director Sports Kashmir University and senior officers of University of Kashmir also present on the occasion. Certificates were also distributed among all the participating players.
Earlier, in the final, the defending champions West Bengal beat Uttar Pradesh by 75 runs. West Bengal won the toss and elected to bat and scored 152 for the loss of 8 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Abishek scored highest 47 runs for West Bengal.
While chasing the target Uttar Pradesh had a poor start and entire team was all out on 77 runs in 18 overs. S Ansari claimed 3 wickets in three overs and gave 6 runs awarded man of the match.
In the morning match played for third position Assam beat J&K by 9 wickets to secure 3rd place in the tournament. After winning the toss J&K opted to bat but entire team was bowled out on 112 runs in 20 overs. Tariq was the top scorer for J&K with his 53 runs.  Chanakya and Roshan took three wickets each for Assam.
Chasing the target Assam achieved the target in 13.2 overs for the loss of one wicket. Chanakya Sharma scored 53 runs and awarded man of the match for his knock of 53 and 3 wickets.
Asif Iqbal of J&K who scored maximum score of 165 runs in the tournament and took 5 wickets was awarded Man of the series for his outstanding performance.
