Srinagar, Dec 19: The residents of Thandipora village of Kralpora area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district are having sleepless nights for the last three months due to the presence of wild animals in the area.
The wild animals including leopards and bears are on the prowl in compartment 30 and 31 for the last three months forcing restrictions on the movement of residents. The residents demanded that the lights should be installed at the dark spots of the villages for their free and safe movement.
The residents said they are living in extreme fear due to the presence of wild animals including leopards and bears in their area. They said they do not venture out of their homes after dusk due to the fear of getting attacked by animals.
“Lights should be installed on roadsides and near Irrigation storage Tank Road as it becomes very difficult for people to walk in the dark. We are facing difficulties in our daily routine due to non-availability of lights,” he said.
Locals said that wild animals on the prowl have become a serious threat to humans and livestock. They urged the Wildlife Department to take more steps to ensure their safety. To minimize the increasing attacks Wildlife Department has already set up cages to trap prowling leopards and black bears.
Talking to Excelsior, Mohammad Maqbool Baba, Wildlife Warden North Kashmir said that they will look into the matter. “We can only install cages for the animals and take them away from the residential areas. The lighting has to be done by the local administration and I will take up the matter with them,” he said.
