Wildlife Deptt captures leopard

UDHAMPUR, Feb 28: Wildlife Department today successfully captured a female leopard that had sneaked into a Ramnagar village.
Sudden sighting of the leopard near village, Ser Bala of Tehsil Ramnagar, created severe panic amongst the dwellers and the matter was reported to the Department of Wildlife Protection, range Udhampur.
Acting swiftly, a team from Wildlife Control Room Udhampur , headed by Range officer Rakesh Sharma, rushed to the spot with all necessary preparedness.
The area was properly cordoned off and the gathered locals were restricted from making chaotic situation with assistance of local police. The rescue operation continued for about one hour, and finally remained successful with tranquilizing the wild beast – a female leopard (Panthera pardus), apparently 18 to 20 months old.
The rescued female leopard was then safely shifted to a veterinary centre at Udhampur for required antidotes prior to its shifting to veterinary centre Manda, Jammu for further specialized treatment till complete revival.
The whole operation successfully carried out under supervision of Wildlife Warden, Jammu, Vijay Kumar and closely monitored by the Regional Wildlife Warden, Jammu, B Mohan Das.
