Wildlife Deptt organizes Brane-Zawoora trekking expedition

SRINAGAR, Aug 5: The Department of Wildlife Protection, J&K, organized a trekking event today on a designated trekking route from Brane to Zawoora, Srinagar.
In the event, almost 40 participants from Kashmir division across various backgrounds like scholars from NIT Srinagar, SKUAST Kashmir, NGO’s, volunteers and tourism-related organizations actively participated.
Dr Mohit Gera, IFS Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and HoFF J&K was the chief guest at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mohit Gera said that the department is actively working on the larger participation of people in understanding nature and environmental issues and trekking events can be an invaluable tool in this endeavour.
He further said that the department wants to bring people closer to Environment, Forests and Wildlife, so that interdependence and co-existence can be understood and appreciated.
Suresh K Gupta, IFS Chief Wildlife Warden, J&K while addressing the participants said this is first of its kind initiative by the department and will continue to organize more such events.
He said that this is just the beginning of a process, wherein the department will allow people to come face to face to the deeper beauty and priceless resources of nature.
He further highlighted the fact that the best way to understand the grand creation is by being part of it.
The trekking event started at 7.00 AM from Brane on a trek approximately 7 Km’s long. Participants enthusiastically completed the trekking and expressed the desire to be a part of such initiatives often in the future.
