SRINAGAR, Nov 10: Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, announced today that the Government will ensure world-class sports infrastructure in J&K and promotion of local talent.
Speaking to reporters after attending the final match of the Talent Hunt U-19 Cricket Tournament at Safapora, Ganderbal, the Minister noted that, to further promote sports, the Chief Minister’s Cup-featuring prominent games-will be organized in every constituency.
“We will continue to promote sports in J&K. Following the Chief Minister’s directives, we aim to establish world-class sports infrastructure here. Soon, you’ll also see water sports being promoted at Manasbal lake,” he stated.
The cricket tournament, organized by the Friends Humanitarian Trust in Safapora, saw enthusiastic participation from 16 teams and ran from June to November 2024.
The Minister acknowledged that gaps have emerged over the past 11 years in various sectors in J&K and that it will take time to address them.
He informed that the Government will host the CM’s Cup in each constituency, covering all major sports. “We’ll also ensure marathons are held in every constituency to showcase local talent,” he said.
Sharma interacted with players, distributing trophies, participation certificates, sports kits, and cash prizes to both teams as a token of appreciation. Additionally, the organizers and the area’s Under-15 cricket team were felicitated and provided with sports kits.
