SRINAGAR, Mar 2: National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah today said his party will never enter into an alliance with the BJP, stating that he would quit politics than compromise with the honour and dignity of the State and its people.
NC would never enter into any sort of an alliance with the BJP, he said.
“I would rather quit politics than compromise with the honour and dignity of the State and its people,”  Omar said addressing a public meeting in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on the occasion of rejoining of Shabir Ahmed Kullay in the party.
The former Chief Minister alleged that PDP’s “sellout” to the BJP brought with it disillusionment, disempowerment and contempt for the people of the State.
In the last year, BJP has used its alliance with PDP in J-K as a “certificate to disguise its politics of polarisation as that of inclusivity,”  Omar said.
He said PDP has “risked” the political rights and interests of the people of the State in order to clench on to power in an embrace with the BJP while BJP and RSS leaders continue to “spew venom” against minorities and continue to “threaten them of dire consequences.”
Former Chief Minister took a dig at Mehbooba for praising the BJP and said it is better to leave politics than joining hands with them. “Mehbooba ji, were you praising these same people. You don’t see anyone better than them. It is better to leave politics instead of joining hands with these people. Apart of destruction what did they gave to this place?”, he added.
The former Chief Minister said that he can’t think of forming Government with BJP as his thinking is different from them. “Some of my associates even today say let’s join hands for five years, who has seen sixth year. I said no. At least not by me. If you want to join hands with BJP, take someone else but I cannot because my thinking doesn’t match their thinking. My ideas don’t match their ideas. They want bring down my flag (State flag).  They want to finish off my Constitution. They want to burn my people alive. They want fight last war with my religion. They demolish my mosque and build temple. And you say to form Government with them. The Government is very small thing in front of all these things. I will reject Government one lakh times but I will not make a sellout”, he added.
Targeting the previous PDP-BJP coalition Government, the former Chief Minister said: “Our people are being today forced cross over to Line of Control. They go to Pakistan for ration because they don’t think they will get the ration here. Centre passed Food Security Act during my tenure but I didn’t implement it here because I knew its outcome wasn’t in favour of this State.”
Omar targeted the Central Government, on definition of the BPL and said the criteria for the BPL in Jammu and Kashmir should not be the same as it is in other States. “This is not Bihar, Madhya Pradhesh, Jharkand and Orissa. Here, we used to provide ration to both APL and BPL. And in BPL we weren’t doing strictness. According to this Act, the BPL is that household which has no iron sheet, which has no mobile phone, no gas, water and electric connection. Now for God’s sake please tell who is without these things in our State? Hardly, very few. But others would be poor but they would place iron sheet over their house.  These people too out of (BPL) ration and PDP people say this is our miracle, we brought storm.  That’s why people today give the slogan, ‘treh kilo tomul, ze kilo out, waentav waen mehbooba ji kus trawie vote’ (three kilogramme rice, two kilogramme rice and tell us who will vote for Mehbooba). This is true that instead of giving something they snatched”, he added.
The former Chief Minister alleged that Mehbooba Mufti has snatched ration from the poor in the State. “Now if you can’t give something, that’s okay, but from where the talk of snatching comes? You are supposed to take something that was a decision, which you are unable to take but instead you are snatching ration from people”, he added.
Omar asked Mehbooba to take a decision on Government formation and don’t keep the State lingering. “Whether you have to form Government or not, take a decision in this regard. Why have you kept people lingered? Now you argue that Governor took the decision of implementing NFSA in hurry but who designated him powers. You gave him. Had you not imposed Governor’s rule in State then the Governor would not have taken any decision”, he added.
Omar asked Mehbooba that she should take them in confidence about the CBMs she wants from Centre before Government formation. “Decisions are both right and wrong. What would be the outcome of the decision is known later but (Kabi na Kabi) decisions are to be taken. Now Mehbooba says I need CBMs from Centre. What CBM? Please tell us and take us in confidence? What are you seeking from Centre which your father didn’t seek? Miss Mehbooba, because that time when you set the agenda you were praising it”, he added.
The NC leader accused Mehbooba of double speak and said that she was terming the Agenda of Alliance as sacred document and now she finds fault with it. “You were saying no book other than this could be better. This is sacred thing. You used the word ‘sacred’. If it is sacred then what is the fault in it and what does it lack? What is the weakness in this which your father skipped and you want to complete that. You don’t say this to people. And when I ask some of my BJP friends, even they don’t know. They too are distressed. We don’t know what Mehbooba ji is seeking”, he added.
