Srinagar, Apr 17: President of J&K United Movement (JKUM), Ishfaq Jabar, stated today that the party will strive for a positive relationship between J&K and Delhi.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of an event commemorating the 34th death anniversary of Sheikh Abdul Jabar, he emphasized that the JKUM will also advocate for creating employment opportunities for youth and will raise its voice for the release of prisoners in various jails.
“We will advocate for the release of prisoners, as well as for general amnesty for those with a history of involvement in activities like stone pelting. We are committed to creating employment opportunities and will provide 300 units of free electricity to the people if we come to power,” he asserted.
Jabar affirmed that the party will prioritize maintaining a good relationship with Delhi and will work towards repealing laws like AFSPA.
“Restoring statehood and ensuring equal rights for people regarding resources are crucial goals for us. Additionally, we will negotiate with Delhi for compensation under the Indus Water Treaty to be directed to J&K,” he added.
Regarding economic progress, Jabar mentioned that the party will soon unveil a detailed manifesto outlining its plans.
Commenting on the party’s decision to field a candidate from the Central Kashmir constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he stated, “We will finalize the candidate for Central Kashmir in the next few days, and the name will be announced accordingly.”
Jabar also noted the growing interest in joining the party, both from individuals and potential alliances. “While many wish to join us, it’s premature to confirm any alliances. We seek reputable individuals to join our ranks and stand for truth,” he remarked.
