Woman dies of burn injuries, parents allege torture by in-laws

JAMMU, Nov 6: A married woman suffered serious burn injuries at her in-laws house and later succumbed to her injuries in Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu.
According to police sources, a young woman namely Rajni Devi (21) wife of Suresh Kumar, resident of Chowala, RS Pura received about 90 % burn injuries at her home due to fire. In serious condition, the woman was shifted this evening at GMCH Jammu, where she expired after about one hour.
Sources said it was not clear immediately whether the woman commits suicide or was burnt to death but a Kerosene gallon was recovered from the crime spot. The body has been sent for postmortem, they added.
Meanwhile, alleging that Rajni was being tortured by her in-laws since her marriage, parents and other relatives of the woman from maternal side staged a brief protest at GMCH Jammu and sought action against them.
SP Headquarters, Jammu, Farooq Qaiser said that inquest proceeding under 174 CrPC in the case has been initiated at police station RS Pura to ascertain the reason of death and investigation is underway.
