This has reference to the news item ‘All parties field few women in election’ DE Dec 18. There will be no significant representation to women either in State Assemblies enshrined in Women’s Reservation Bill is granted to them.
The question regarding women representation in law making bodies crops up whenever election are to be held. But dies down the moment results are announced and Government starts doing its business.
Actually no political party in the country is ready to provide 33 percent reservation to women in India. The parties express just lip service, and do nothing concrete in this regard. It will take pretty long time for the country to provide equal opportunities to women in law making bodies. Till then whosoever women gets party ticket for law making bodies should consider herself lucky.
There is the need to give them representation in Panchayats and Local bodies. This will help them to get some representation in the future.
