RANJAN (NAGROTA), Dec 7: Describing women empowerment as key to harmonious growth of society, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today said that adequate conditions are needed to be created for their economic emancipation and participation in decision making.
“To achieve gender equality in decision-making, political awakening among women assumes immense significance”, Rana said at a workers rally while nominating Rekha Langeh as Block President, NC Women Wing for Mathwar Block, in presence of Provincial President Women Wing Satwant Kour Dogra, former MLA Bimla Luthra and Dilshad Malik, among others.
He exhorted women to come forward in a big way and play their role as equals in politics and other fields. “This will greatly help in carving out a rightful place for women in society, ending domestic violence, incentivising their economic emancipation and ensuring optimum female literacy”, he said and dwelt upon the opportunities created by National Conference over decades in eliciting women participation in politics and social service. He said endeavours have been made to encourage girls’ involvement in various activities so that they grow as useful citizens of the society.
The Provincial President urged women to take lead in fighting discriminatory and anti-people policies of the PDP-BJP Government, saying governance deficit has hit the masses at grass-roots level, especially the women, the most in terms of scarce drinking water, unscheduled power cuts, rise in the prices of essentials etc.
“The recent hike in the prices of rations distributed to consumers through CAPD outlets has been a harsh blow to poor people”, he said while describing this as the Ache Din version of the BJP. He said he has been pursuing developmental departments to ensure minimum basics to the people and maintain regulated supply of drinking water and power in the constituency.
The MLA Nagrota came down heavily on the BJP for letting down people by deviating from the basic responsibility of governance. “The Government has failed on all fronts and the promises made during 2014 elections have turned out as hollow slogans”, he said, adding that the present dispensation has lost its will to govern, which is discernible by chaos like situation in all the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
Provincial President Women Wing Dogra and former Legislator Bimla Luthra also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, Rana inaugurated the party office at Agore in Upper Jandal Block Mathwar.
