JAMMU, June 25: Describing women empowerment imperative for harmonious growth of the society, former MLA and National Conference leader, Bimla Luthra today stressed for their larger role in decision making.
“National Conference has pioneered several schemes to empower women and ensure their upliftment from time to time”, Luthra said while addressing women workers of the party at Suchetgarh.
Luthra said the mission undertaken by the National Conference for women emancipation is needed to be carried forward in a big way. She said though women have made significant contribution in every field and were excelling in various sectors, especially education, yet more is needed to be done for them.
“This is possible only by strengthening National Conference, which alone can meet the challenges confronted to the State”, the former MLA said and cautioned the workers to remain vigilant against the machinations of divisive forces, which were creating wedge between various segments of society.
She assailed the BJP for pursuing polarizing politics saying this is detrimental to the interests of the state, known for its unity in diversity.
The former MLA exhorted the workers to work for strengthening bonds of brotherhood and communal harmony, which has been proud legacy bequeathed by Late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah to posterity.
Responding to the issues raised by workers with regard to utility services, especially power and drinking water supply, Luthra said these will be taken up at appropriate level for redressal. She hoped that the administration will take compassionate view of problems faced by the people, particularly in rural areas.
Those who were present in the meeting included, Naresh Bittu, Jyoti Devi, Bharti, Tilky, Savita Devi and others.
