Women’s Ice Hockey under Khelo India concludes

LEH, Feb 20: Three days Women’s Open Ice Hockey Tournament organized by the District Administration in collaboration with Ladakh Women’s Ice Hockey Foundation and Chushot Sports & Cultural Society under “Khelo India Sports for Peace and Development” concluded here today.
The final match was played between Chushot and Tara team in which former defeated latter by two goals to one (2-1). Total three women’s teams participated in this tournament and among these, 20 girls will represent India in an International Ice Hockey Tournament in Abu Dabi soon.
On the concluding function, Additional District Development Commissioner, Leh Moses Kunzang was the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Moses appreciated the enthusiastic and spirited approach of the young girls for taking part in Winter Games especially from last few years which has tremendously enhanced the standard of Ice Hockey in Ladakh.
He said that facilities and infrastructure for Ice Hockey is comparatively improving in Leh and the new Ice Hockey ring at Skyatsags which was used during this winter to some extent would ensure better atmosphere for the sports in future.
Moses urged upon the girls to focus on practicing by taking the advantage of the availability of ice these days and also advised them for taking guidance through internet in order to upgrade their sporting skill.
On this occasion, the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Tsering Tashi highlighted the objective of this tournament and said that the Department would further organize such tournaments of seasonal nature for the overall development of the youth.
