Wonderboys emerge winners in JK Police T20 C’ship

GANDERBAL, July 10: Wonderboys Red defeated Police Youth Club by 42 runs in the summit clash of the Ganderbal T20 Cricket Championship 2014, organized by Jammu Kashmir Police, which concluded here today.
Earlier, Wonderboys won the toss and elected to bat first on what seemed to be a batting friendly strip.
Despite losing their first wicket on the very first delivery of the match, Wonderboys batsmen played brilliantly to post a challenging total of 159 runs in their stipulated 20 overs. Fayaz Alam top scored with 58 runs, while Kaisar Bhat played a blistering innings of 40 runs off 19 balls.
Chasing the target of 160 runs, Police Youth Club batsmen couldn’t face the Wonderboys’ pace attack and bundled out for 117 runs in 19.5 overs, thus lost the match by 43 runs. Rafiq Mir’s 46 and a couple of big hits from Aijaz failed to trouble the Wonderboys bowlers.
Raja Rashid and Nisar Bhat took 3 and 2 wickets respectively for Wonderboys.
Fayaz Alam was adjudged man of the match, while Kaisar Bhat was declared man of the Tournament.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Paramveer Singh, DySP (HQ) Raseek Mir, DySP (DR), R S Rahi and DySP (Ops), Umar Shah were present on the valedictory function and distributed medals and trophies among winners and runners-up teams.
