JAMMU, Jan 4: The work of the stadium on 32 kanals land at Bandu Rakh has re-started by the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
The work was inaugurated in the presence of former Chairman of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Satish Sharma, Panch Ravindra Singh Raju, former Naib Sarpanch Satnam Singh Kaka and officials of the department.
Satish Sharma said that this was an old demand of the people of the area that a stadium should be built. He informed that former Sports Minister Raman Bhalla approved the stadium in 2014 and its work started but the coalition Government of PDP and BJP stopped it.
“Panch Ravindra Singh Raju raised the issue prominently to get the stadium work started again with the authorities during first phase of Back to Village program”, Sharma said, adding that former Minister Raman Bhalla also intervened in this and talked to several officials of the department to resume the work of the stadium and today due to their efforts, the work of stadium has started again.
Satish said that the officials of the department have told that the stadium will be constructed at the cost of Rs 150 crores and it will be ready in seven months. In this, along with hockey, football, volleyball, many other sports facilities will be provided to the youth of the area.
Among others present were Harvinder Pal Singh, Taran Deep Sanju, Tejendra Singh Raju, etc.
