Work on multi-level car parking facilities at Panjtirthi, Peer-Kho begins

JAMMU, July 6: Vehicular congestion in Winter Capital of the State, particularly in the Old City, is likely to see some improvement soon as work on the much awaited multi-level car parking facilities at Panjtirthi and Peer-Kho is all set to be officially kick started with the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti laying foundation stone of these two mega projects on the forthcoming Sunday.
The Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, will also lay foundation stone of the Intelligent Traffic Signal Light System Project in Jammu City, work on which is already going on
Official sources told the Excelsior that the multi-crore ramp based car parking projects at Panjtirthi and Peer-Kho will be completed in next 24 months and 12 months, respectively and the facilities shall ease congestion in Old City where most of the vehicles are parked on the road side.
More than 400 cars can be parked at one time in these two multi-level car parking facilities, each of which will have five floors in addition to Ground floor, sources said and added that car parking facility at Panjtirthi will have the capacity of 240 vehicles  while the Peer-Kho project  will have car parking facility for 171 cars.
Both the parking facilities will be fitted with services like addressable fire alarm system, fire fighting and sprinkler system, bomb detection unit, boom barriers, ticketing machines etc.
Since the ramp based parking is low in maintenance, it will also be economical in the long run.
In Rs 30.32 crore car parking project at Panjtirthi, Rs 24.11 crores will be spent on civil work and remaining on other associated works and facilities, sources said.
While elaborating, sources explained that Rs 67 lakh will be spent   on general electrification (including 2 DG sets), Rs 24 lakh for water supply and drainage system, Rs 37 lakh for addressable fire alarm system, Rs 36 lakh for HAVC, Rs 56 lakh for fire fighting and sprinkler system, Rs 6 lakh for public address system and Rs 92 lakh for car parking management, including bomb detection unit, boom barriers and ticketing machines etc.
Having almost similar facilities like that of  the Panjtirthi project, sources informed that the estimated cost of Peer-Kho car parking facilities is Rs 19.90 crores. With 4956 square meter built up area, each floor of this multi-level car parking facility will have a height of three meters.
On July 9, sources added, foundation stone of Intelligent Traffic Signal Light System in Jammu City will also be laid by the Chief Minister along with Deputy Chief Minister at Panjtirthi Bypass Point.
Coming up under AMRUT with an estimated cost of Rs 21.41 crores, the project involves survey, design, supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of Intelligent Traffic Signal System, including Pedestrian Signal Lights, with operation and monitoring of the Traffic Lights from a centralized Control Room remotely at 34 locations in Jammu city. It also includes upgradation of all the existing 30 Fixed Time Standalone Traffic Signal system to Intelligent Traffic Signal System.
The allotment of this contract has been made to M/s DIMTS ltd (ITS), Delhi and the project is to be completed and commissioned in all aspects within time period of six months, sources said and added that work has already been started on 10 junctions, out of which foundation work for five junctions stand completed.
On the same day, the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will also inaugurate the upgraded Maharaja Hari Singh Park.
