JAMMU, Oct 24: Like other parts of the country, Vishwakarma Day was celebrated in Jammu by working class, particularly those dealing with mechanical works, and their bodies.
Besides paying obeisance to Lord Vishwakarma, the mythical God of Engineering, workers at various places performed Havan and Pooja of mechanical tools.
Remembering Lord Vishwakarma during a function of technical workers at Marble Market in Trikuta Nagar, Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture, Youth Services and Sports Raman Bhalla paid tributes to the founder of craft, art, architecture and engineering, who is also known as the God of carpenters, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, and masons.
Stating that technical workers were playing vital role in redesigning the profile of the State through their planning, the Minister said that real tribute to Lord Vishwakarma would be to improve vocational skills of people for enhancing their abilities of capturing new job opportunities created with the induction of modern technology.
The State unit of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) celebrated the occasion by organizing an impressive function under the leadership of its State president Shiv Kumar Sharma at Kunjwani workshop of Ground Water & Drilling Division, Jammu.
Superintending Engineer Sunil Gupta was chief guest on the occasion while Executive Engineer Ashok Singh Choudhary and many other officers, ministerial staff and INTUC workers attended the function wherein Pooja and Havan were performed with traditional devotion.
To celebrate Vishwakarma Day, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan in coordination with Ek Sath Rang Manadal presented its musical play “Karma”, which throws light on divine architect, Lord Vishwakarma. The Musical play was written, produced and directed by M L Dogra, former Regional Director, Song and Drama Division and music was composed by Master Raju Bajgal. The Program was inaugurated by V K Magotra, former Regional Director Field Publicity, GoI while Vijay Malla and Romesh Chander were the guests of honour. The programe commenced with song “Bharat Ka Nirman Hoga, Ghar Ghar Roshan Hoga, sung by the renowned artistes Usha Handoo, Raju Bajgal, Hem Raj and K K Joshi.
On the occasion of Vishwakarma Day Mazdoor Dastkar Union in collaboration with Vishwakarma Prabandak Committee took out a Shoba Yatra (religious procession ) in the Udhampur town. The procession started from Vishwakarma Temple and after passing through different areas like Subash Nagar, Indra Nagar, Adarsh Colony, Barrian, Talab Saillan, Shakti Nagar and Chabutra Bazaar of Udhampur, culminated at the starting point.
