JAMMU, Sept 24: To make the young sportspersons aware of the ill-effects of doping, a workshop on anti-doping awareness was organized by Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council under the aegis of National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Navin Aggarwal, Head, National Anti Doping Agency (NADA), who was the chief guest, made a power point presentation on the doping.
While interacting with the sportspersons, Aggarwal said that NADA has developed an extensive education programme namely Programme for Education and Awareness on Anti Doping in Sports (PEADS). PEADS is a comprehensive programme that has been planned with an objective to deal with different stakeholders in the country, he said, adding that each stakeholder is clearly defined in this programme as key stakeholder.
The main stakeholders are NADA, followed by Sports Authority of India (SAI) and National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL).
He urged the sportspersons to refrain from taking any drug, which would not only ruin their career but severely diminish the image of the country.
Dr Ankush Gupta, member NADA also spoke on the occasion. He advised the coaches to hone the skills of the budding sportspersons to the fullest and keep a check on their activities.
He said that NADA was actively involved in educating the athletes/sportspersons located at various training centres throughout India.
Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary, Sports Council, Jammu was also present on the occasion. He also advised the sportspersons not to indulge in any activity, which would harm their career and strictly follow the do’s and don’ts.
Divisional Sports Officer Jammu Rajan Sharma, senior officials including Ashok Singh, Satish Sharma, Ravi Singh and coaches also attended the workshop.
On the occasion, a booklet regarding anti-doping awareness was also released by the dignitaries.
