JAMMU, June 14: World Blood Donor Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal.
J&K State AIDS Control Society in collaboration with different Government and Non Governmental Organization, Health Institutions and Educational Institutions organized various voluntary blood donation camps and awareness programmes across the State to celebrate World Blood Donor Day, in which many volunteers came forward to donate blood.
A special fortnight long campaign has been launched on the instructions of Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal, Minister for Health & Medical Education Department, J&K State in order to make the general masses especially from the rural areas to get motivated for donating blood voluntarily.
In Jammu region various activities like voluntary blood donation camps, poster making contests and awareness programmes were organized by J&K State AIDS Control Society in collaboration with different organization including the Red Ribbon Clubs of Government AMT School, GMC, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, Bee Enn Nursing Institute, Chak Bhalwal, Jammu, IGES Institute of Nursing and Health Sciences, Marble Market, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, Sanjeevni College of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences, Akhnoor Road, Jammu and Stephens Institute of Paramedical Sciences, Miran Sahib, RS Pura, Jammu.
A team of officers from J&K State AIDS Control Society comprising of Dr Yash Pal Karsyal AD, JKSACS, Deepika B Thakur DD, Rajesh Sharma AD and Dinesh Kesar, Store Officer participated in the programme.
In addition a programme was organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan, J&K to launch a special drive in the rural areas of the State in collaboration with J&K State AIDS Control Society (JKSACS) to motivate the youth to act as ambassadors of JKSACS for creating awareness about this noble cause of Voluntary Blood Donation.
During the interaction with the participants Deepika B. Thakur, Deputy Director, JKSACS briefed them about the significance of voluntary blood donation especially in context of HIV/AIDS prevention and drug de-addiction.
Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Project Director, J&K State AIDS Control Society informed that a mega State level function will be held on June 26 in the auditorium of Government Medical College, Jammu in which Dr Devinder Kumar Manyal, Minister for Health and Medical Education Department has consented to be the chief guest.
Regional Red Cross Branch Kashmir organized a programme to celebrate the World Blood Donor Day at GGHSS Kothi Bagh Srinagar. Additional Commissioner Kashmir AS Mir and Regional Red Cross Secretary MR Mattoo were present on the occasion. A large number of students and staff from GGHSS Kothi Bagh and SPHSS MA Road participated in the programme. Shabir Hussain Khan was gifted a bicycle as a token of appreciation and encouragement for being a generous donor having donated a total of 160 points of blood over his life span so far.
To commemorate World Blood Donor Day, the Red Ribbon Club and NSS Units of Government Degree College Udhampur in collaboration with J&K State AIDS Control Society organized a seminar on the theme “Be There For Someone Else” and the slogan was “Give Blood, Share Life”. Principal of the College Prof SK Magotra chaired the event and also addressed the students about the importance of donating blood. Prof. Hans Raj Sharma, Coordinator, Red Ribbon Club, Dr Udhey Bhanu, HoD Mathematics, Prof Romesh Kumar Atri, HoD Botany, Prof. Kamal Kishore, ANO, Prof. Sanjay Kumar HoD Political Science and other faculty members were also present on the occasion.
The Red Ribbon Club of GDC Akhnoor celebrated World Blood Donor Day by taking out rally at village Pangiari of Block Akhnoor. About 30 students of different semesters with faculty members participated in the rally to aware people. Principal of the college Prof Kuldeep Raj Sharma addressed the volunteers. Coordinator of Red Ribbon Club of the college Prof Dewarka Nath, Prof Suresh Sharma, Dr Satish Sharma, Prof Rahul Gupta and Shash Paul, Master were also present.
CISF personnel of CISF Unit Shep Salal celebrated World Blood Donor Day by organizing a blood donation camp at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Super Specility Hospital Katra. In the camp, about 20 CISF personnel voluntary donated the blood and the management issued certificates to the donors.
