JAMMU, Aug 8: World Breast Feeding Week was celebrated today by Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, Jammu and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J).
In connection with World Breast Feeding Week, Department of Pediatrics, Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, Jammu today organized a community awareness program regarding ‘Breast Feeding’ in its premises.
The programme was attended by a large number of medical/paramedical staff and parents of infants admitted in the Hospital. Residents doctors from Department of Pediatrics and Department of Gynaecology, delivered lectures on various aspects and benefits of breast feeding.
This was followed by an extremely interactive session with panelists including Dr Rekha Harish, Dr Indu Koul, Dr Sanjeev K Dogra, Dr Ashu Jamwal, Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma and Dr Anuj Bharti in which a large number of parents and relatives participated actively and cleared their doubts and apprehensions regarding ‘Breast Feeding’.
Meanwhile, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) celebrated World Breastfeeding Week under the theme “Breastfeeding: Foundation of Life” at different villages in Reasi district.
Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr Banarsi Lal, while initiating the programme, said that breast feeding is the best way to provide required nutrients to the newborns. He also enlightened the women regarding the personal hygiene while breast feeding.
Dr Suja Nabi Qureshi (scientist) and Dr Arvinder Kumar also spoke on the occasion. An interactive session was also organized in which the participants clarified their doubts regarding breast feeding.
