JAMMU, May 8: To commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of Red Cross Movement and first Noble Prize winner Sir Jean Henry Dunant, World Red Cross Day was celebrated across the State with enthusiasm.
Indian Red Cross Society Jammu (IRCSJ) celebrated World Red Cross Day with great enthusiasm. Shantmanu, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu (Chairman Red Cross Regional Committee, Jammu) was the chief guest. The students recited the Red Cross song. Shantmanu flagged off YRC students rally from Red Cross Bhawan, Jammu which proceed to Rajinder Chowk, Jammu by foot and boarded buses from there to Police Auditorium, Gulshan Ground. A sensational performance by Mythya Band left the audience spell bound. Earlier, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Chairman District Red Cross Branch, Jammu presented the welcome address, whereas in the end RC Puri, secretary, IRCSJ presented vote of thanks. Annil Suri President BBIA Association Jammu, Seema Sekhar Khajuria Additional Advocate General, Arunima Sinha IAS Officers Wives Welfare Association, retd Major General GS Jamwal, Danial Adhikari DIG BSF, Brigadier MM Harzai, retd Wing Commander MM Joshi, Navneet Kour, Director, IRCSJ, besides many other attended the function.
In connection with World Red Cross Day, a function was organized by the District Red Cross Committee (DRCC), Srinagar at SP College Srinagar. Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Chairman of District Red Cross Committee Farooq Ahmad Shah was the chief guest, while Principal SP College, Dr Mohammad Yaseen, Chief Education Officer, Srinagar, Munshi Mohammad Javid, District Social Welfare Officer Srinagar, Riyaz Ahmad, volunteers, students of various schools participated in the function. Deputy Commissioner awarded the students who spoke on the occasion.
World Red Cross Day was also celebrated at Shopian district. District Development Commissioner, Bashir Ahmad Bhat was the chief guest on the occasion. The function was attended by students of various educational institutions of the district. The speakers highlighted the importance of the Day and contribution of Red Cross Societies.
World Red Cross Day was celebrated in the State office of Indian Red Cross Society, J&K branch. The function was presided over by the Additional Director General of Police (Armed) SM Sahai who inaugurated the function by hoisting the Red Cross flag and opening the photo exhibition. Four Red Cross selected stories were presented by the volunteers. Three write-ups were awarded with cash prizes besides mementoes and certificates. All the contributors were awarded with certificates. Programme Manager IRCS J&K State presented the welcome address. General secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Roma Wani, team leader ICRC Beata Skwarska, Secretary Regional Red Cross Society Kashmir, AJ Chaket, besides many other expressed their views. Later, a rally of volunteers was flagged off by Roma Wani.
District Administration, Reasi organised series of programmes to commemorate International Red Cross Day. The main function was organised at Mini Secretariat where Chairman District Red Cross Society addressed the students of various schools and officials of various departments. Assistant Commissioner Revenue Tilak Raj Sharma and Chief Medical Officer Dr Mohd Younis also presented a resume of various activities being taken by DRSC and Health Department in the district. Later, a rally was flagged off by the District Development Commissioner. Chief Medical Officer organised a blood donation camp at Reasi.
District Red Cross Society (DRCS), Poonch celebrated World Red Cross Day. Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Sajjad Ahmed Khan and SSP Poonch Choudhary Shamsher Hussain flagged off a rally which commenced from Government Girls Higher Secondary School Poonch and culminated at Krishan Chander Park. The student volunteers from all the schools participated. Ayaz Mughal, member and trainer of Red Cross was also present.
Social Workers Forum Doda organized 14th Free Eye Camp on the eve of World Red Cross Day at Old District Hospital Doda in collaboration with District Red Cross Society Doda, Health Department Doda, DBCS Doda and 10 RR Doda. District Development Commi-ssioner Doda Mubarak Singh inaugurated the eye camp in presence of CMO Doda Chairman, SWF Doda Raja Anayatullah Khan and secretary DRCS Dr Iqbal Zargar, functionaries of Health Department and Red Cross volunteers.
To mark World Red Cross Day, the District Red Cross Society Udhampur with the active support of Education Department organized a rally. The rally was taken out from the premises of Government Boys Higher Secondary School which after passing through various locations culminated at Deputy Commissioner Office, Udhampur. Around 350 students drawn from different educational institutions participated in the rally. Joint Director Planning, Udhampur Rakesh Jamwal was the chief guest, who flagged off the rally. Secretary, Red Cross Society Udhampur, Dr VP Sharma gave detailed account of activities of the society carried out during the last fiscal.
To mark World Red Cross Day, District Red Cross Society Samba in collaboration with Education Department organized a rally. The rally was taken out from the premises of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Kehli Mandi, Samba which after passing through the New Bus Stand Samba and main markets of the town culminated at Bhargava Degree College Samba. As many as 200 students drawn from various educational institutions participated in the rally. District Development Commissioner, Samba, RK Varma flagged off the rally. Principal Bhargava Degree College Samba, teachers, volunteers and students of various Government and private educational institutions participated in the function.
A debate competition was organized in Government Higher Secondary School (Boys) Doda to celebrate the World Red Cross Day by the District Red Cross Society Doda in collaboration with Education and Health Department on the topic “My Red Cross Story”. DDC Doda Mubarak Singh was the chief guest, while as Additional Deputy Commissioner Doda Imam Din, PO ICDS Surat Singh, CMO, CEO and Secretary District Red Cross Society, Principals of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Doda and Government Boys Higher Secondary School Doda were also present. Students drawn from different educational institutions participated in the debate competition. Nazia Wani of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Doda was adjudged first, whereas Asif Malik of Government Boys Higher Secondary School Doda secured second position. The third position was shared by Ashutosh of Green Model Higher Secondary School Doda and Shazia Niak of Government Girls Higher Secondary School Doda. Awards, certificates and cash prizes were distributed among the winners of the competition.
International Red Cross Day was celebrated at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, RS Pura in collaboration with Red Cross Society Jammu, in which students from various educational institutions participated. A rally was organised, followed by debate competition. SDM RS Pura Rajinder Sharma was the chief guest, while BMO Des Raj Dogra, RS Pura presented the welcome address.
World Red Cross day was celebrated Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Akhnoor. Dr KC Bhagat was the chief guest. On the occasion, a rally was organised in which students from various institutions took part. A symposium on “My Red Cross Story” was organised, in which Himani Sharma of St Francis High Secondary School, Akhnoor bagged first position, whereas Sonali Sharma and Prajwail Bral of DAV Nagbani Akhnoor bagged second and third positions respectively.
Government Higher Secondary School, Sohal, Akhnoor celebrated Red Cross Day. Sarpanch Narinjan Singh was the chief guest, while students, staff members, VEC members, Panchs and other citizens were also present. Ram Paul Sharma, Principal presented the welcome address, while Vijay Vaid, senior lecturer and convener of the programme presented vote of thanks.
Maharaja Harisingh DAV Cent Public School, Akhnoor celebrated World Red Cross Day. Principal of the school presented the welcome address. Mohinder Paul Sharma, teacher and Anish Sharma, student of VIII class expressed their views.
Shangrilla Public School celebrated World Red Cross Day, in which students participated enthusiastically. Guest of honour Sureshta Khajuria inspired students to continue their services to the Red Cross Society.
World Red Cross Day was celebrated at RM Public School. A short skit on Red Cross volunteers was presented by the students. A small speech was given on planting more and more trees. Principal RM Public School Ravinder Kour presented the vote of thanks. Administrator Meenakshi Sharma and Vice Principal Shashi Jamwal were also present.
